Canyonlands Natural History Association

Canyonlands Natural History Association is a not-for-profit organization established to assist the scientific and educational efforts of the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the USDA Forest Service, agencies that together oversee more than 7.5 million acres of federal land in southeast Utah and the Four Corners Area. Our goal is to enhance each visitor's appreciation of public lands by providing quality educational materials, both free and for sale, in our outlets in park visitor centers, other agency contact stations, and through our online catalog.

The Discovery Pool
The Discovery Pool was established by CNHA on April 5, 2006 to provide our federal partners with financial support for eligible scientific studies conducted within their administrative boundaries. The funding for these grants comes in part from Memberships, retail outlet sales, and from private, tax-deductible donations.

Last of the Robbers Roost Outlaws: Moab's Bill Tibbets Last of the Robbers Roost Outlaws: Moab's Bill Tibbets
Tom McCourt
The story of Bill Tibbetts is an exciting tale of one man's journey as a wanted man: his grit, gumption and loyalty to the land and his family. In the early 1900s, much of southern Utah was still untamed, unnamed and unexplored. To a bold adventurous boy like Bill Tibbetts, the place was magic. Cowboys still bucked-out wild horses and chased renegade bands of Indians. Much of this nostalgic read takes place in what is now Canyonlands National Park. It is the story of a real man, a real cowboy and a real outlaw.
The Illuminated Desert The Illuminated Desert
Terry Tempest Williams and Chloe Hedden
WINNER of the 2009 MOUNTAINS & PLAINS REGIONAL BOOK AWARD for CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK
The Illuminated Desert is a stunning dialogue between painting and prose by two daughters of the Colorado Plateau: Terry Tempest Williams and Chloe Hedden. This is more than an "abecedarian" or Alphabet Book. It is an exquisite rendering of the red rock canyons of southern Utah and the natural history that evokes a poetry of place.

The wonderful text by Leslie Kelen, David Sucec and an introduction by N. Scott Momaday give insight to cultural styles and history.
Where God Put the West Where God Put the West
Betty Stanton
The film industry has given southeastern Utah history a dose of unexpected glamour. Area visitors and new residents are often unaware of the enchanting Hollywood past throughout this high desert plateau. After four and a half decades of filmmaking in Moab and nearly seven decades of film production in Monument Valley, many citizens have stepped forward to help document this important aspect of canyon country's legacy. 184 pages.
